Tuesday Morning
Where did Monday go? Oh, I know. It went in a series of appointments, phone calls, and demands from the menagerie in my home. Today isn’t going to be quite as bad. I have one appointment for Mom this morning and then I can focus the rest of the day on work.
Speaking of which, TuggerCat decided I needed to be up at 0415 to give him the pets he deserved. I finally gave up at 0530. There’s only so long I can stay in bed with a cat jumping over me and onto me and sitting on my head, all the while meowing and occasionally nipping me because I am NOT doing what he wants.
That means the day started earlier than planned, but that’s okay. I’ve checked and the snippet is scheduled to post tomorrow morning. Yay!
I’ve also written approximately 2k words. I needed to add a scene to help foreshadow part of the conclusion of the novel.
I’ve also glanced at the headlines and have shaken my head at yet another incident on a Delta flight. This time, smoke—or haze as they called it—filled the cabin and the flight had to return to Atlanta yesterday. Is it just me or are there an increasing number of problems not just with airlines but with Delta in particular?
On the local front, another school district is looking at closing schools in an effort to cut costs. This time, it’s Fort Worth ISD. I was stunned when I saw the number of students it has lost over the last few years. Between that and the age of some of the schools, I don’t blame the district for looking at closures. However, it is concerning to see how the consultants appear to be choosing the schools they are recommending for closure. I’m not saying they are wrong. But I’d really like to see more information—something they haven’t been forthcoming with this early in the process—about actual enrollment, how those schools rate when it comes to testing scores, etc. There are reasons for a mass exodus from a district and FWISD needs to address those reasons or the exodus will continue.
Now, it is trying. It was basically forced to several months ago when Fort Worth’s mayor called the school board and district leadership out for the low reading scores (and other issues). That led to a change in leadership and a new superintendent being named just the other day.
As for the rest of the news, at least locally it is focused on Luka’s return to Dallas for the Lakers/Mavs game tonight. All I can say to the Mavericks’ front office is they’d better hope for a good showing from the team. If the Lakers blow us out, it isn’t going to be pretty. No one wanted to see Luka traded. He will be cheered when he comes out tonight. Heck, I’ll be cheering him from my living room.
And I’m dithering. I need to get my butt out of my chair and take the trash out, feed the dog, and get another cup of coffee. Come back tomorrow for the snippet. Until then, have a great day!
